Description
The Army Cadet Force is one of the UK's oldest, largest and most successful youth organisations. We have a long and proud history of preparing youngsters for all walks of life and encouraging an active involvement in local communities. There are 44,000 cadets and 8000 adult instructors in over 1700 Cadet Centres spread across the UK. What we do The Army Cadet Force motto is "Inspire to achieve" and aims to provide young people with training in a wide variety of subjects. We develop young people physically and mentally, improving self-confidence, teamwork, friendship and leadership. We welcome cadets of all abilities and backgrounds that are able to access the majority of our activities. We also aim to develop a sense of community in our cadets. We provide a wide diversity of fun, exciting and adventurous opportunities. We are a gateway to recognised vocational qualifications from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme to BTEC First Diplomas which can help in working and school life. Here is a list of some of the activities that Army Cadets take part in; Core basics (part of a progressive learning syllabus): Drill and Turnout, Fieldcraft, Skill at Arms, First Aid, Community Projects, Map and Compass & Competition Shooting. Physical activities: Sports [Football, X-County, Swimming, Hockey, Athletics, Rugby, etc], Canoeing. Kayaking. Summer & Winter Mountaineering, Climbing, Orienteering, Caving, Mountain Biking, Expeditions & Foreign Exchanges. Qualifications: Cadet Leadership Courses, Vocational Qualifications, Duke of Edinburgh's Award & First Aid Certificates. Other opportunities include a subsided two week annual camp at a wide variety of locations in the UK, at least 7 training weekends at the Cadet Training Centre in Thetford, residential courses for older Cadets in Leadership, First Aid and Instructing younger Cadets and more. The adult instructors come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are all volunteers. All volunteers have an enhanced disclosure by the Criminal Records Bureau and are trained to instruct and conduct all the subjects and training that is offered. Both parents and potential Cadets are encouraged to drop in to Diss's detachment on any Monday night for an informal chat to discover the wide and varied things that the Army Cadets can offer.Aimed at: Young people ages between 12 - 18
