National Youth Work Week

As I’m sure you aware the 1st to the 7th of November 2010 is National Youth Work Week. The week is all about celebrating & showcasing the fantastic activities and opportunities put on by youth workers for young people up and down the country.

In Blackpool we are planning a week of activity across the town with a wide and varied selection of things going on that should suit all tastes! The week is set to be launched with the massive Big Idea event at the historic Winter Gardens on Saturday 30 October 2010. The Big Idea is an opportunity for children & young people (or staff) from across Blackpool to bid for funding to set up their own youth projects, each bid will be decided upon by a panel of young people in a “Dragons Den” style setup.

Across the week we already know that there is going to be Canvas Art, Gender Specific work with young women and a Diwali Night! This however is just the beginning, there will be a menu of activity across the town for young people to engage with.

Saturday the 6th November 2010 will see the culmination of our efforts with a huge celebration event taking place at the newly refurbished Mereside Youth & Community Centre at which the work of children, young people and Blackpool Young People Services will be showcased.

We’ll be tagging all our activities that are part of National Youth Work Week with the keyword NYWW through the input API so if you have something happening in your area that is part of this fantastic celebration, join in and tag it too!
