News
We track over 600 news feeds for stories that are positive about young people. We also find stories about Places to Go and Things to Do. Sometimes we find out that a Place to Go has closed - that's bad!
Better Information
One day someone said to us "Plings sounds great, but we haven't the time nor resources to tell you about our activities". In the meantime, this organisation had been in the local newspaper, about a recent trip to the Houses of Parliament.
So - we thought "surely if we scoured the local news sources we would find masses of information about Places to Go and Things to Do?". So we did.
It took a while, but we built up a bank of hundreds of local news sources and fed them all into RSS reader accounts. We set up some Yahoo Pipes and messed about with some code, and suddenly found we had a nice flow of news stories.
Help Wanted (1)
We're looking for volunteers to help. We need real people to pick out the stories from the feeds (login, read/scan the feeds, and 'star' appropriate stories - it's all automatic after that!).
It is very interesting - alongside the positive stories about young people, you get to learn about roadworks in Romford, fog warnings in Fakenham and bingo nights in Bognor. Plus lots of crime - but that isn't positive.

New stories sit in the 'Upcoming News' section and need one vote to get them 'Published'. Anyone can vote with the click of a mouse, so pop over and have a go. You don't need to let us know about this - just do it!
