Walking

Be an urban explorer, a countryside rambler, or a mountaineer. Walking is one of the simplest and most popular ways to relax.

Walking gives you independence: you don't have to wait for a lift or catch the bus.

It's also great for your health. Walking is good for your heart, lungs, muscles and bones. It gives you a feeling of well-being, and regular walking helps you sleep.

Get close to nature in refreshing woodlands or warm summer meadows. Many writers and philosophers go walking to clear their mind and come up with new ideas.

Join a rambler's group to meet new friends and learn new routes to walk in the countryside.

Typical cost: Free; £17.50 per year to join the Ramblers.
